ABOUT DURHAM

Founded just over 1,000 years ago (in AD 995), Durham City continues to delight its visitors - and not just with its impressive Cathedral and University. With a population of around only 40,000 people, Durham really is a small but beautiful city. [For a  map of Durham, click HERE].

VISIT DURHAM - HOW TO GET HERE

By Car: Durham lies next to the A1 motorway, connecting London (265 miles south) and Edinburgh (125 miles north).

By Coach: Use National Express.

By Train: For Durham train tickets, use The Trainline website.

By Plane: The nearest airports (both around 25 miles away) are Newcastle Airport and Durham Tees Valley Airport. For flights to and from these airports, visit the Skyscanner.net website.

DURHAM ATTRACTIONS - WHAT TO SEE & DO

Must-see attractions are Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle and also Durham University.

In summer, hire a rowing boat or enjoy watching some sport at Durham County Cricket Club.

The following museums are also good for passing the time and learning something new:  Durham Heritage Centre and Museum, Durham Light Infantry Museum, Durham University’s Museum of Archeology and their Oriental Museum.
